Rog Hiking Trail
Marked with a bear’s paw symbol, the trail is a real opportunity for several days of exploring the forests of Rog region.
Marked with a bear’s paw, this trail is the perfect opportunity for a multi-day wander through the forest solitudes of Rog. The starting point of the circular hiking trail, which is divided into three stages, is Rudniško Lake. Just a few steps from the blue waters are the Željne Caves, where people have sought shelter for as many as 20,000 years. Next is the Pugled-Žiben Forest Reserve, which invites you to its own time period, and from there, tranquillity follows you all the way to the Rog sawmill, whose silent remains bear witness to a once-thriving economic activity. The landscape is “disturbed” only here and there by the remnants of the Gottscheer villages, whose inhabitants have long since moved away. In contrast to this are the primaeval Rajhenav forest and the Queen of Rog, which have persisted in the same place for centuries, and the Prelesnikova koliševka Forest Reserve, which hides the flora of the cold north.
