Short Kočevje mountain trail
The path leads through the unspoiled nature of the Kočevje region, where you will discover the unique habitat of some rare animal and plant species.
The Kočevje Mountain Trail links the sights of the southwestern part of the municipalities of Kočevje, Kostel and Osilnica. It runs from Koča pri Jelenovem studencu to the Kolpa River at Gorenja Žaga, along the edges of the Kolpa canyon to the Krempa saddle and returns to the hut via Borovec and Kočevska Reka and past the Ice Cave (Ledena jama). The first part of the trail mainly leads through naturally preserved fir/beech forests. There are only a few villages and hamlets in between, demonstrating the sparse population and heavy vegetation of Kočevje’s landscape. The entire Kolpa edge represents a unique habitat of rare and endangered plant and animal species.
